FOR MARYVILLE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF NURSING

Carl Owen Scholarship

Carl Owen served as a member of the Home Health Care Foundation Board from 1990 to 2007, and was actively involved in the development of the Foundation’s scholarship programs. He demonstrated continuing concern and dedication to the work of the Foundation in providing opportunities for nursing and physical therapy students in the St. Louis area.

 

To be considered for the Carl Owen Scholarship awarded by the Home Health Care Foundation for the Maryville School of Nursing, you must:

 

  1. Be a junior or senior student enrolled full-time in the nursing program

  2. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

  3. Demonstrate financial need by filing the FAFSA report with the
    Maryville Office of Financial Aid.

 

Each award recipient must commit to spend a half-day attending one of several Visiting Nurse Association of Greater St. Louis information events at the VNA offices during the academic year.

 

To be considered for the Visiting Nurse Association of Greater St. Louis Scholarship

 

  1. Submit the FAFSA report.

  2. Fill out the scholarship application and submit with faculty recommendation already filled out (in a sealed envelope.)

  3. The University will complete the University Comments prior to submitting the Application.

FOR SLU SCHOOL OF NURSING

Marcella Cohen and Charles Wallace Scholarships for Nursing

 

Marcella Cohen was appointed Director of Visiting Nurse Association of St. Louis in 1953. She received her basic nursing education at Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Lincoln, IL and did post-graduate studies in public health at Saint Louis University, the University of Minnesota, and Washington University (St. Louis). She served as a staff nurse of Visiting Nurse Association of St. Clair County, Illinois for 21 years and as Director from 1941 to 1953. In 1953 she was given an award of appreciation for her work in the field of nursing by the East St. Louis Chamber of Commerce, the only woman to be so honored.

 

Charles How Wallace retired in 2006 as Chairman of the Home Health Care Foundation after providing 37 years of continued volunteer service and leadership to VNA of Greater St. Louis, the VNA Foundation, and Home Healthcare Foundation. Mr. Wallace was one of three VNA officials who founded the VNA Foundation in 1975. In 1993, the VNA Foundation changed its name to Home Health Care Foundation, and it continues the principal purpose of annually funding nursing scholarships to the local nursing schools in St. Louis.

 

To be considered for the Marcella Cohen or Charles How Wallace Scholarship, an applicant must meet the following criteria at time of application:

 

  1. Junior or senior student pursuing a degree in the Bachelor of Science-Nursing at Saint Louis University

  2. Enrolled as a full-time student

  3. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

  4. Demonstrate financial need by filing the FAFSA report with the Office of Financial Aid.

 

To apply:

 

  1. Submit a copy of completed FAFSA report.

  2. Complete the scholarship application and submit along with completed faculty recommendation (in a sealed envelope).

  3. Attach a cover letter to the application materials and submit to the address listed on the appropriate application.

Ursula Bracy Scholarship for Nursing

 

The Ursula Johnson Bracy Scholarship was established in honor of Mrs. Ursula Johnson Bracy, RN, BSN. Mrs. Bracy graduated in 1932 from Kansas City General Hospital School of Nursing and received a baccalaureate degree in Public Health Nursing from Saint Louis University School of Nursing in 1951. She was employed by VNA for nearly forty years. Mrs. Bracy was one of the first African American nurses to be employed by VNA. She was a pioneer and leader in community health nursing throughout her professional career.

 

To be considered for this scholarship you must:

 

  1. Be an African American baccalaureate student at Saint Louis University School of Nursing

  2. Be academically in good standing

  3. Have demonstrated leadership characteristics as a student

  4. Reside in the St. Louis greater metropolitan area (including metro East Illinois)

  5. Demonstrate financial need by filing the FAFSA report with the Office of Financial Aid.

 

To apply for the Ursula Johnson Bracy Scholarship for Nursing:

 

  1. Submit a copy of completed FAFSA report.

  2. Complete the scholarship application (see below) along with completed faculty recommendation (in a sealed envelope).

To be considered for this scholarship in the amount of $1,750 awarded by Home Health Care Foundation for Nursing, you must be a junior or senior student (during 2019-2020) pursuing a degree in the Bachelor of Science – Nursing, enrolled full-time in the University of Missouri College of Nursing, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, and must demonstrate financial need by filing the FAFSA report with the UMSL Office of Financial Aid.

 

The award recipient must commit to spend a half-day attending one of several Visiting Nurse Association of Greater St. Louis information events at the VNA offices during the academic year.

 

To be considered for the Home Health Care Foundation Scholarship:

 

  1. The University will complete the University Comments prior to submitting the Application.
