Why VNA

In one word, the answer is experience. No other hospice equals VNA in its experience in providing hospice care in the community. Visiting Nurse Associations were the originators of caring for patients outside of a hospital setting, and they continue to be leaders in this kind of medical care. Since 1911, VNA has been providing such leadership to our community.

VNA Hospice Care is also one of the few hospices in the area to be accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, and it is certified by both the Medicare and Medicaid programs, and licensed by the State of Missouri’s Department of Health. All of these help to assure the quality of the care provided.

Unlike many hospices, VNA Hospice Care is proud to have a Medical Director who is an expert in pain management and is a Board Certified specialist in Hospice and Palliative Care, one of the few in this area. Our Medical Director is also available to make visits to patients in their homes or in nursing homes, which is a unique service among local hospices, as well.

VNA Hospice Care is also one of the few hospices that have volunteers who visit patients with their pets. Dogs and cats like to volunteer their time, as well, and are often welcome visitors in many homes and nursing homes.

In addition, VNA Hospice Care is the only non-hospital based, non- profit hospice in the area. It is also a charter member of the United Way and provides services without regard to payment ability.

You have many hospices to choose from in this community. You have the choice of hospices, which are extensions of hospitals and nursing homes, some not always recognized for their quality of care, and you have a choice of providers with home bases in places like Oklahoma, Florida, and California. And there are others who have been in business only a few days, a few months or a few years. But there is only one with the name VNA and only one with nearly 95 years of experience in caring for patients at home and more than 25 years of specialized experience in hospice. What better reasons to choose VNA Hospice Care, when you determine it’s the right time for hospice.
