ON-SITE SMOKING CESSATION PROGRAM

Thanks to funding received from St. Louis County Department of Health, Visiting Nurse Association can provide your employees with a free smoking cessation program.

VNA and their trained facilitators will provide the American Lung Association’s evidence-based Freedom From Smoking program at NO COST to worksites with 50 or more employees in St. Louis County Districts 1, 2, 3, or 4.  This is a value of $750 per session plus $100 per participant!

Freedom from Smoking is a seven-week, eight-session program designed to assist smokers in their journey to quit smoking. Each session is one hour long.  The program uses a positive behavior change approach that shows each participant how to become a nonsmoker by:

  • Learning about their smoking habit
  • Looking at the people, places and things that trigger their urge to have a cigarette
  • Developing a quit plan that will work for them
  • Learning how to deal with the symptoms of recovery, weight control, stress management, and resisting the urge to smoke during tough times

The one-hour sessions are held weekly during the time of day that is most convenient to the company, with two one-hour sessions held during quit week (sessions 4 and 5).  The group and facilitator will provide the support the participants need to quit smoking and stay quit.

This free program is made possible through the Communities Putting Prevention to Work federal grant awarded to St. Louis County as part of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. A portion of the grant funding is being disseminated to VNA and other community groups to assist in the tobacco education and smoking cessation effort.
