HOSPICE CARE
WHY CHOOSE VNA HOSPICE CARE?
Visiting Nurse Association is one of the oldest and most trusted hospice care providers. VNA is the only independent, nonprofit hospice in the St. Louis area and is a charter member of United Way of Greater St. Louis. Following its long tradition of bringing new concepts in health care to this region, VNA was on the forefront of the hospice movement, providing hospice care since 1982, soon after the hospice movement was introduced in the United States in the late 1970s.
VNA Hospice Care is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, the nation’s predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. The Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. VNA is also certified by both Medicare and Medicaid and licensed by the State of Missouri’s Department of Health. For information about The Joint Commission or to report a complaint about the quality of care of any Joint Commission-accredited health care organization, go to http://www.jointcommission.org/GeneralPublic.
Volunteers are at the heart of any hospice program and VNA Hospice Care’s volunteers are among the very best. They are nationally recognized for their excellence in service and commitment to care and compassion. They have received prestigious national, regional, and local awards and honors including Visiting Nurse Associations of America’s Outstanding Service Award in 2006, 2007, and 2010 and the St. Louis Rams’ Quarterback Volunteer of the Year Award for four consecutive years, including 2009.
VNA Hospice Care is also pleased to include four-legged friends among its volunteers. Dogs and cats like to volunteer their time as well, and are welcome visitors in many homes and nursing homes through the “Love on a Leash” program.
VNA provides hospice services without regard to the patient’s ability to pay. VNA is a charter member of United Way of Greater St. Louis and receives funding via personal donations as well as community support to help provide services for those who do not have Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance or who are under-insured.
Patients and/or their families have the right to choose their hospice care provider. While the types of services provided under hospice are regulated, not all hospice care is equal. The level of care, quality, and manner in which the care is delivered can vary greatly. It is important to choose a hospice care provider that you trust and that can meet your individual needs. There is a difference in hospice care providers. The right choice can mean so much to you and your family during this most difficult time.
